Police Arraign Atlantic Bay School's Music Teacher, Driver For Defiling 8 Yrs Old Pupil


Police have arraigned a music teacher and a driver of Atlantic Bay Preparatory School, Lekki, Lagos, before an Igbosere Magistrate's Court, Lagos, for allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of an eight-year-old girl (name withheld).

The music teacher, Wisdom Akpoaerema, 33, and the school bus driver, Ibrahim Umaru, 39, were arraigned before Chief Magistrate K. O. Doja-Ojo, on a two count-charge standing bordering on sexual assault.

At the arraignment of the two accused on Wednesday, the Prosecutor, Sergeant Peace Chukwudi, informed the court that the accused committed the alleged offences between September 2017 and March 16 and 19, at Atlantic Bay Preparatory School premises, Lekki, Lagos.

The prosecutor said: "Sometime in September 2017, Umaru indecently assaulted the eight-year-old girl (name withheld) by forcing her to hold his manhood, while they were inside the school bus.

"However, on March 16 and 19, the second accused, Akpoaereme, unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the same girl inside the school music room".

She said that the offences contravened Sections 135 (1) and 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Both the music teacher and the driver denied the offences, and pleaded not guilty to the two counts charge.

Following the accused persons plea of not guilty, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Doja-Ojo, ordered that the two accused persons be remanded in prison, while ordered that the case file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), for legal advice.

The Chief Magistrate consequently adjourned the matter till May 9 for mention, and outcome of DPP's advice.
