MRS Service Station Manager Bags 4-Year Imprisonment for Stealing N2.3m

A Manager with MRS Service Station, Akoka branch, Mr. Amedu Friday, have been sentenced to four years imprisonment with hard labour, for stealing the sum of N2.397,650.00, by an Ogba Chief Magistate's Court, Lagos.

The court presided over by Magistate K. A. Ogundare, convicted and sentenced the station manager after found him guilty of the two counts charge of conspiracy and stealing leveled against him by the men of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), of Lagos State Police Command, Panti-Yaba.

The convict was first arraigned before the on January 2014, on the alleged offences, which the prosecutor, Inspector Cousin Adams, said are contrary to and punishable under sections 409 and 285(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

During the trial of the convict, the prosecutor, Inspector Adams, had informed the court that the convict and one Simeon Ejiro, now at large, broke the security safe of the petrol station a stole the said sum.

Inspector Adams also informed the court that the convict is the only person that Keep and know the security safe key and code, and that there is know way the convict could exonerate himself from the offence.

During the trial, the prosecutor had called five witnesses, who included the owner of the fuel station, Mrs. Nkechi Okeke, and four other staff of the station. While he also tendered five documents which were admitted as exhibits.

Though, the convict denied the offence claiming that his office was burgled by his alleged conspirator, Simeon Ejiro.

However, Magistate Ogundare, while delivering in Monday, judgment of the two offences, held that the prosecution has been able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt, by establishing that the convict actually commited the offence.

Consequently, Magistate Ogundare convicted and sentenced the manager to two years with hard labour on each count.

He ordered that the term of  sentence is to run consecutively.

Count one of the charge against the  convict reads; "that you Amedu Friday, and on 23 day December, 2013, at about 09. am, at MRS Service Station, Akoka branch, via UNILAG gate, in the Lagos magisterial district, did conspired among yourselves to commit a felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 409 if the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011".

While the count two reads: "that you Amedu Friday and others now at large, on the same date, time and place, in the aforesaid magisterial district, being the manager of MRS Service station, Akoka branch, did steal the sum of N2.397,650,00 million, property of your employer, one Mrs. Nkechi Okeke, of MRS Service station, and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 286(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011".
