Court Remands 4 Notorious Land Grabbers Over Possession of Firearms, Ammunition (Photo)

Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Lagos Federal High Court, on Thursday, ordered the remand in Prison's custody of four suspected land speculator, popularly called land grabbers, who were re-arraigned before the court over alleged possession of firearms and ammunition, pending the perfection of bail conditions granted them by the court.

The accused persons to be remanded in Prison's custody are: Ganiyu Alabi, David Murphy, Folarin Isiaka and Kehinde Isiaka.

The court ordered their remand after they pleaded not guilty to the three counts charge leveled against them.

The accused persons had earlier been arraigned before the court, last Friday, on six counts charge ofconspiracy, possession of firearms, breach of public peace, stealing, willful damage, and unlawful assault.

In the  amended charge, filed by the FIICD' prosecutor, Mr. Dennis Abi, the four accused persons and others at large, were alleged to have on October 15, 2016, at about 10a.m., invaded Oko-Olomi community in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, while armed with three pump action guns with numbers 2856, 8976, and 2598, a double barrel gun and two live cartridges.

The offences according to the prosecutor, are contrary to and punishable under section 516,27(1)(a)(I) and 27(1)(B)(ii) of the Firearms Act, Cap F28, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The accused persons however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Upon the accused persons' plea of not guilty, the prosecutor applied for a trial date, urged the court to remand them in Prison's custody.
However, lawyers to the accused persons, Mr. Adewale Adegoke and B. S. Ajayi, urged the court to admit bail to accused persons in the most liberal terms.

The two  lawyers informed the court that they have filed their clients' summon for bail, and such have been served on the prosecution.

Ruling on the bail applications, Justice Ibrahim Buba, granted bail to each accused persons in the sum of N5 million with one surety in the same like sum.

Othe conditions of the bail including, the surety must be a bonafide resident of Lagos, evidence of up-to-date three years  tax payment, the sureties must swearing to affidavit of means, two passport photograph of accused persons.

Justice Buba however, ordered that all the four accused persons be remanded in Prison's custody pending the perfection of their bail conditions.

The matter has adjourned date is December 7, for commencement of trial
