Security Guards Bags Six Months Jail Terms for Burglary

A 19 year-old, security guard, Samson Dennis, on Wednesday, sentenced to six months imprisonment, by Magistrate Olanike Olagbende of an Igbosere Magistrate's Chief Court, Lagos, for breaking and entering into a lawyer's apartment.

The convict's jail terms according to the magistrate is to commence from the first day he was arraigned.

The convict was first arraigned on July 21, 2016, over offence of entering into the house of a lawyer, one Tunrayo Akinmolayan and stole the sum of N122,500.

He had pleaded guilty when first arraigned, and the case was adjourned till today for facts and sentence.

In given the fact of the case, the prosecutor, Corporal Friday Mameh, informed the Court ‎that the incident  took place on June 25, at about 2pm  at plot 13, Furo Ezimora Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

He stated further that the complainant Tunrayo Akinmolayan who is a lawyer and resides at the above mentioned address went to Maroko Police Station on June 30 at about 1:45pm to report the incident.

The prosecutor said; "the complainant reported that one Samson Dennis who is a security operative of the above address unlawfully gained access into her apartment to steal the said amount that was kept in the shelve in her room."

‎He also informed the court that during investigation the convict admitted to have committed the crime, adding that the money he stole was used to purchase canvas shoe, wrist watch, face cap, ear phone, necklace, hand bangles, sport wear and sun glasses.

In pronouncing judgement on the case after listening to the facts given by the prosecutor, the Magistrate Olagbende convicted sentenced the security guard to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.
