Lagos Businessman, Chief Gabriel Okonkwo Faces Criminal Charge of Malicious Damage

A Lagos businessman Chief Gabriel Okonkwo alleged  to have set fire to a property belonging to another Lagos businessman has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate court, Lagos state south west Nigeria.
In a one count criminal charge number L/43/2016,filed before the court by Police prosecutor from Force criminal investigation Department, Alagbon Ikoyi, Lagos, Assistant Supritendent of Police Henry Obiazi, it was alleged that Chief Gabriel Okonkwo, on the 1st of February, 2015, at Alaba international Market Lagos in the Alaba Magistrate District did willfully and unlawfully set  fire to a fiats-Allis Catapilar, Model 345 Be Model value N7,800, of one Engineer Bayo Oladosu, thereby committed an offence punishable under section 349(4)(e)(ii) of Criminal law of Lagos state, 2011.
The accused businessman pleaded not guilty, consequently his counsel Mr. Uche Nwammadu urged the court to admit the defendant to bail in liberal terms, however the prosecutor ASP Obiazi while not opposing bail urged the court to admit the accused to bail with stringent condition that will ensure his attendance to face trial because it took the intervention of Force Headquarters Abuja before the accused could be apprehended for arraignment.
        In her ruling the Presiding Magistrate Taiwo Omoyele (Mrs) granted bail to the accused person in the sum of one Million Naira with two responsible sureties who must be gainfully employed and resident in Lagos with the evidence of tax payment in Lagos state. The office and house addresses of the sureties to be verified and submit report of verification to the court.
       Thereafter Magistrate Omoyele adjourned till 17th of August, 2016 when the trial of the accused businessman will commence, while the accused will be remanded in prison custody pending the time his bail condition will be full filled.
