Expectations High Over Mothers Day

The recently celebrated St. Valentine’s Day no doubt generated a lot of hoopla as brands and marketing companies took full advantages of the event. However, the annual ritual of Mother’s Day already fixed for 6th March this year will no less generate a great deal of excitement amongst the citizenry.
On that day, marketers, advertisers and businessmen as well as religious organizations will organize activities around the ceremony as a show of love and appreciation of the mothers. For the brand owners, it will be an opportunity to bond closely with them through celebration of mothers who play pivotal roles in the family.
In mosques and churches, there will be religious activities aimed at showering love and encomiums on Mothers who are seen and believed to be mothers of the nation.
Individuals and groups will also not be least in the celebration that will witness flurry of Mother’s Day cards, orchid corsages, restaurant meals and telephone calls from distant children. It is a day that will certainly be like no other for the mothers.
The origin of Mother’s Day dated back to the era of ancient Greek and Romans. But the roots of Mother’s Day history can also be traced in UK where a mothering Sunday was celebrated much before the festival saw the light of the day in us.
However, the celebration of the festival as it is seen today is a recent phenomenon and not even a hundred years old. It is against this background that the day has become a global event attracting celebrations of immense proportions.
In Nigeria however, a new twist is being added as Peak Milk, a leading dairy brand in the market has strongly identified with Mothers through a special song in appreciation of Mothers and motherhood and the launch of special limited edition packs of the product. The brand has done this through a bold inscription of affectionate, adorable and emotive words like ‘Love You’, ‘Thank You’, ‘Sweet Mother’.
